Escola de Samba Brno is a samba drum school aimed at the general public. They encourage absolutely everyone to join their lessons. Together they form a drum orchestra – or bateria – in which they play not only samba from Rio, but also other Brazilian, exotic, and modern rhythms. Escola de Samba Brno was founded by percussionist Jakub Škrha, who lived and studied samba and other rhythms in Rio itself. He is one of few Czechs to have taken part in the greatest and most famous carnival in the world – the Carnival in Rio. Two years in a row he played in the bateria of the Unidos do Viradouro samba school, and one year with the Acadêmicos do Cubango bateria. You can find samba schools of every shape and size in practically every corner of the globe. They’re rooted in the tradition of drumming bands, baterias and blocos from Brazil. It’s not just about creating a group of people who play together and learn the various rhythms, it’s also about creating positive vibes and forging new friendships. This is also the aim at Escola de Samba Brno.
